The books described below are all those I have written. If a price is quoted, they are available from me at the next Toy Soldier Show at the Royal National Hotel in London - see Home and Contact page for details. I'm afraid I no longer do mail order sales, so come yourself or have a friend pick them up for you. Please E-mail me at email@example.com to ensure that I bring a reserved copy of those books still available to the next show for you.
Shire Album. Shire Publications 1983
This was the first book that I wrote. It has 32 black and white pages, and explains simply what the toy soldier collecting hobby is. Great for introducing your friends for the first time. Over 30,000 copies in print.

BRITAINS TOY SOLDIERS 1893-1932

Known as the Big Blue Book, this is a comprehensive study of the output of the Britains figures of the period, concentrating on contrasting the various changes of version which the figures in each set underwent.
Can be read in conjunction with the publications of Joe Wallis, Armies of the World and Regiments of all Nations, to form a complete catalogue of Britains hollowcast toy output 1893 to 1966.

THE COLLECTORS GUIDE TO NEW TOY SOLDIERS
Stuart Asquith published by Nexus 1991
This book details hundreds of manufacturers with colour photographs. I wrote a 7,000 word introduction about the early days of the new (reproduction for collectors) type toy soldiers.
THE GREAT BOOK OF BRITAINS
New Cavendish 1993
The book to end all books. 100 years of Britains production with 950 colour photos and a quarter of a million words, arranged in a year by year production sequence. 640 large format pages.
Also, issued by Britains themselves, a specially bound edition with an exclusive set of toy soldiers.
Both editions of this are currently out of print, and you can purchase copies secondhand for around $350 each or more.
Apparently some 2,000 copies went missing in the US, and if anyone knows where they are, I would like to know, as the publisher hadn't sold them, and therefore was unable to pay me any royalties for them !
OPIES POCKET PRICE GUIDE TO BRITAINS HOLLOWCAST TOY SOLDIERS
New Cavendish 1994
The only version checklist available for Britains set collectors, cross referenced to the Great Book of Britains. Although the prices in it are valid for 1994, in fact they have not changed a great deal over the ensuing ten years, and the most valuable part of the book is the rarity rating which enables set rarity to be compared.
